Musicologist Mark C. Samples obtained his Ph.D. in musicology from the University of Oregon, where his dissertation, "a bundle: Branding, Technology, and Advertising in Music associated with twentieth and twenty-first hundreds of years, " obtained him the University Outstanding Scholar in Musical prize last year.
