The songs Education program when you look at the class of musical is one of the leading programs when you look at the country. With a long custom of superiority in preliminary teacher preparation, graduate knowledge, and expert development for in-service instructors, the program is renowned for a comprehensive, field-based curriculum that's full of songs practices and methods training; an outstanding professors of professionals; and a remarkable record of accomplishments by its students. The Undergraduate System

This program was created to prepare songs educators for successful work in a number of settings. Through partnerships with metropolitan and suburban school areas into the Columbus area, pupils gain a wealth of experience and an extensive point of view on songs teaching and discovering. Three tracks lead toward Ohio pre-K-12 licensure in songs (view these curricula under four-year Plans):

  • Choral Music Education Curriculum - pupils prepare to show and direct center and senior high school choruses;
  • General Music Education Curriculum - Students prepare to instruct primary classroom songs and secondary-school non-performance courses;
  • Instrumental musical knowledge Curriculum - Students prepare to show wind and percussion or stringed tools from starting through advanced level levels.

To get ready for training jobs concerning numerous responsibilities, students may finish training much more than one specialization. Ohio State's songs knowledge degree program makes students in order to become confident and skilled college experts.

Students are admitted officially into the songs training significant through a procedure ultimately causing Professional Standing and subsequent recognition because of the university of Education of these candidacy in instructor education. Application for pro Standing occurs during 4th semester and causes review by area professors people in academic development (2.75 general GPA, 3.0 GPA in songs); documentation of 100 hours of early field experiences (see musical knowledge Documents, Early Field knowledge Handbook) and recommendations by School of Music professors members and field-experience teachers.

Post-Baccalaureate Licensure in Music Education

This non-degree system is made for music students (BM, BA) who want to obtain a permit to show choral, general, and/or instrumental songs in Ohio general public schools, pre-K through 12. This program is required for BA and BM students who would like to go after a master’s degree in songs knowledge.
